Derived from the anti-cancer peptide α-helical segment of p53 (ASPP2), a protein linked to tumor suppression, PNC-27 has shown promise in inducing cell death (apoptosis and necrosis) in various cancer cell lines, including pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, leukemia, and more. Studies highlight PNC-27’s ability to target cancer cells selectively, leaving normal cells unharmed, making it a potential therapeutic option. Initially designed in 2000 to combat HIV, this peptide has demonstrated exceptional efficacy in binding with the double minute (HDM2) protein, abundantly expressed on cancer cell membranes. This binding disrupts the cancer cells’ membrane, forming holes and causing membranolysis. The outcome is apoptosis, or cell death, as ions flood in and cellular contents flow out.
